Late Breaking News!

January: At the January board meeting David Swope talked about some work being done to Sandia Motor Speedway that would allow for more configurations of the track. One possible layout would connect the current turn 5 with turn 7. Another possible layout would go from turn 8, down the hill to connect with the current turn 10.

Also in January was the annual SWMS banquet, held this year at the Route 66 Casino and Hotel, west of Albuquerque. A good time was had by all, prizes and trophies were awarded and Indy Car designer and engineer Alan Mertens gave a talk on his current projects, including a new C Sports Racer and a Supercar. For photos of the banquet click here. To visit Alan Mertens website to see his new projects, click here.

December: At the recent board meeting, club representatives met with Jody Miranda and David Swope of Sandia Motor Speedway to discuss ways of gaining more attention and members for the years ahead. At the top of the list is a new presence on TracksideNM.com Also discussed were the inclusion of karting events and vintage car shows at our 2009 events to help draw more interest from the vintage community and the general public. Also discussed: our annual end of the year BASH, this year at the Route 66 Casino and Hotel on January 24. Plan ahead, get a room and stay the night!

Victory Lane Victory Lane Cover November: In their November issue, Victory Lane: The Vintage and Historic Racing News Magazine has included Sharon Sprague's article on our August event, The Seventh Annual DeutschMarque Classic in their November issue. Featuring great photos by Ross Kells, the article is a two page spread and showcases the great talents of our SWMS drivers and the Sandia Motor Speedway facility. Muscular Dystrophy Muscular Dystrophy Association October: The Muscular Dystrophy Association of New Mexico assembled a very nice poster of appreciation for participants in their summer camp "Life in the Fast Lane." As noted earlier, SWMS members had the largest representation at their Socorro Car Show. True to form, many SWMS cars are featured on the poster. Let's remember this show next summer and see if we can double that number! For a larger version of the poster click the image at left.
